Samsung's P2, a device from one of the electronic gadgets giants is trying to capture the market in its class of devices. A large rally features and a well designed layout of the device has become the heartbeat of the young generation as a whole and fortunately has something or the other for each age group prevailing in the society. The proof of its popularity is that its name lies in the list of Top 10 Gadgets of 2007 issues by TIME in collaboration with CNN.
The near-buttonless design comes together very nicely with a solid build quality common to Samsung’s portable devices. Along with a good user interface in the form of a touched screen panel, this device proves to be handy. The P2 is comprised of two halves, the plastic face - or touch screen - and the back metal plate. The touch screen is very scratch resistant and as long as you’re not laying the P2 face down, the touch screen will hold up well.
One of the amazing feature of this device is the presence of bluetooth in it which makes the sharing of media really easy.

Nokia N96 --mOst awaited N series phone

Finally, wait for Nokia's most exciting and awaited N series mobile set is going to get over in October 2008. Nokia is planning to launch Nokia N96 in India this winter.

Though the phone it replaces is still a beast by any measure, the N96 pushes the envelope further by packing a solid 16GB of storage internally in addition to a microSD slot, something the N95 8GB lacks. The 5 megapixel autofocus camera with Carl Zeiss Tessar lens carries over, but there are now two LEDs doing flash and video light duty. The 2.8 inch QVGA display will come in handy for the integrated DVB-H mobile TV tuner, while a 3.5mm headphone jack, A2DP, and integrated stereo speakers should handle audio with aplomb. Other features include WiFi, AGPS, and morphing lights on the smaller second slide that hook the user up with game controls when it's time to relax with a little N-Gage action. Unfortunately, the first version of the N96 (and the only version announced thus far) supports HSDPA only on the 900 and 2100MHz bands, but we imagine the strength of the spec sheet should still be enough to sell a few of these stateside when it launches.

Abhinav Bindra----Shot On Gold & History Created

The drought of gold medals for India is over. Shooter Abhinav Bindra has clinched India's first ever individual gold medal at the Beijing Olympics in Men's 10 metre Air Rifle Shooting Competition. His final score read 700.5.

Prior to today, the top individual Olympic performance by an Indian was Abhinav’s teammate, Rajyavardhan Rathore, who won individual silver in Athens in the men’s Double Trap event. The 25-year-old, who qualified fourth for the event, shot an overall score of (596+140.5) 700.5 in a thrilling finale which went right down to the last shot.In the ten rounds, Bindra shot 10.7, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, 10.5, 10.5, 10.6, 10.0, 10.2 and 10.8 to clinch the gold. Bindra started the finals in third position but improved his performance and consistently shot well to claim the first place defeating China’s Qinan Zhu. Finland’s Henri Hakkinen faltered on the final shot and finished third.

Abhinav Bindra is the brightest star among a new breed of talented Indian shooters. Born on September 28, 1983, Bindra is quite often criticized for not delivering on the promise he showed as a child prodigy.

Coming from an affluent family and with the luxury of an indoor range in his backyard, Bindra proved to an early bird and, at 15, was the youngest participant at the 1998 Commonwealth Games. Bindra shot into limelight by winning a bronze in the 2001 Munich World Cup with a new junior world record score of 597/600.

He is the best shooter in the world and I think his is a morale boosting feat for everyone in the contingent,” a jubilant Indian Olympic Association President Suresh Kalmadi said after Bindra’s win.
We are all very happy. He is a very hardworking athlete. The entire shooting contingent is celebrating. We are very proud of him and it is just the beginning,” national coach Sunny Thomas said.

The entire country erupted in joy and celebrations when the reports of his great victory flashed across the television channels. Emotions are high in India, as tearful people welcomed this great news. This gold will prove to be morale booster for the entire Indian contingent and we might have many more medals heading our way.

08/08/08

Friday is special for those who go by the calendar, to mark that unique date of 08-08-08. This great palindromic date 08-08-08 coincides with the inauguration of the XXIX Olympic Games in Beijing. The date is not only catchy but the number 8 is also considered very favourable in Chinese culture. The Chinese pronunciation for ‘eight’ (ba in Mandarin and paat in Cantonese) sounds similar to the word for ‘prosperity’ (fa in Mandarin and faat in Cantonese). The 2008 Beijing Olympic is scheduled to be held from August 8 to August 24,2008 in the city of Beijing. The opening ceremony of the Olympics will begin at 08:08:08 pm CST.

The Chinese believe that numbers are not just figures indicating quantity or just superstition but that they have a magical quality. They also assign yin and yang qualities to the numbers. Yin and Yang are the two opposing forces active in the universe. Yin signifies passivity and darkness whereas Yang signifies brightness, activity, and positive force. So, they generally prefer Yang qualities. The odd numbers 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 represent Yang energy and the even numbers 2, 4, 6, and 8 represent Yin energy.

Prof V S Yalvigi, an 82-year-old botany professor for 35 years and an avid philatelist for over 40 years, said, “This millennium consists of 12 palindromic dates indicating beginning with 01-01-01 till 12-12-12. This kind of palindromic dates are rare and special as it occurs once in a thousand years.”With people queuing up outside astrologers' offices to find out how the trilogy of number 8, brought about by today's date 08-08-08, would affect them. If something bad has to happen, it will happen no matter what the date is." Numerologist Sanjay B Jumaani agrees but still advises caution, "08.08.08 is eight days after the solar eclipse and eight days before the lunar eclipse. People should go about their normal chores but should not do anything auspicious such as starting a new venture or getting engaged or married today." Astrologer Dr Prem K Sharma gives a reason to cheer when he says, "Number 8 is governed by Lord Shani (Saturn) and his benign influence gives us power, independence, ambition and organisation. 08+08+2008 = 26, also adding up to 8 which is again influenced by Saturn - the planet that rules judgement, hard work and strong determination." People on the street had varying views about the 'special' date.

Digital Camera............Capturing memories

It was the mid-1970s that over in the US a revolution was in the making: a young electrical engineer was finishing the prototype of a new type of camera. Steven Sasson's first photo on the toaster-size electronic camera he built at Kodak's headquarters in New York has been massaged by public relations into the kind of legend that surrounds the world's first telephone call. Digital has killed film as the main image-making medium, leaving it to artists, enthusiasts, professionals wanting large images cheaply, and home snappers uninterested in learning new technology.

The tipping point came somewhere between 2001 and 2003 when digital quality increased to a point that satisfied most users - and prices dropped enough to tempt them. Digital cameras also began to appear in low-resolution form on mobile phones. This meant people had cameras with them wherever they went.
A digital camera is a camera that takes video or still photographs, or both, digitally by recording images on a light-sensitive sensor. Many compact digital still cameras can record sound and moving video as well as still photographs. In the Western market, digital cameras outsell their 35 mm film counterparts.
Digital cameras can include features that are not found in film cameras, such as displaying an image on the camera's screen immediately after it is recorded, the capacity to take thousands of images on a single small memory device, the ability to record video with sound, the ability to edit images, and deletion of images allowing re-use of the storage they occupied.

Benefits:

1 - You get superior image quality. Digital cameras can offer good to excellent image resolution.

2 - You get a fair price. A digital camera is reasonably priced and is affordable.

3 - You can transfer the pictures to your laptop. You can easily connect the digital camera to your laptop and transfer the pictures in your hard disk.

4 - You can print in large sizes. Due to its high resolution, pictures can be printed in large sizes by any plotter.

5 - You can email the pictures to your friends. You can send the pictures by email to your loved ones.

6 - You can store the images in CDs or hard disk. Once the pictures are transferred from digital camera to the computer, permanent storage on a CD or hard disk is possible.

7 - You can take the camera in your pocket while you travel. The small size of the digital camera makes traveling with it easy and a pleasure.

8 - You can move in close to your subject. Zoom lenses offer close-ups of your subject with sharp focus. You can take very good close-ups of flowers, bugs, stamps, coins, etc.

9 - You can rework the image in a computer. Any photo editing software can rework the images taken.

10 - You can take good pictures even in low-light situations. Due to flexible over sensitivity or ISO equivalents, digital cameras can easily take detailed pictures even in low-light conditions.

11 - You can take quality still photos of moving objects. Sports and fashion photography can be easily accomplished due to the fast burst rate of digital cameras.

12 - You save money. There is no need of buying photographic films, developing them into negatives and positives. Moreover, the batteries are usually rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, which last a long time.

13 - You can choose as per your needs and fancy. Many models are available like standard digital camera, underwater digital camera, waterproof digital camera, compact digital camera, and the professional digital camera.

Storage Media:

Digital cameras use memory to capture and store images. Some of the storages media used are onboard flash memory, 3.5" floppy disks, video floppy disk, PCMCIA hard drives, CD or DVD, CompactFlash memory cards, Microdrives, Memory Stick, SD/MMC, MiniSD Card, MicroSD Card, XD-Picture Card, SmartMedia, and FP Memory.

Part Of the Games Identity

The symbols associated with the Olympic Movement are now firmly embedded in the protocol of the Olympic Games and give rhythm and significance to its most important moments. The flag has had a varied place in the ceremonial part of the opening and closing ceremonies since 1920. Initially, it was simply raised in the stadium.
Carrying it into the stadium as part of the ceremony was introduced in 1960 at the Games in Rome (Italy). From 1971, the decision to use athletes instead of uniformed cadets to carry the flag has added a special element of surprise to the opening ceremony as many distinguished sports people and individuals have been selected for this honor. After its arrival, the flag is raised up the flagpole where it remains throughout the entire period of the Games. When the flag is lowered at the closing ceremony, it signals the end of the Games. Today, the tradition of transferring the Olympic flag from the mayor of the host city of the Games to the mayor of the next host city of the Games also takes place at the time of the closing ceremony, although this was not always the case. The arrival of the Olympic flame in the stadium by torch relay is another great highlight of the opening ceremony. With the lighting of the cauldron by the last relay runner, the flame is transferred from the torch to the place where it will continue to burn for the entire length of the Games. The flame is extinguished on the final day of the Games at the closing ceremony. Nowadays, the Olympic rings are one of the most easily identifiable visual images in the world, and everyone immediately associates them with the Olympic Games. However, this was not the case at first.
Below are some examples of how the rings and flag were integrated into the Olympic Games :
– Winners’ medals
The rings appeared for the first time on the winners’ medals at the 1924 Games in Paris (France). They quickly disappeared from the winners’ medals in 1928 when the IOC selected a permanent design that highlighted a seated female representative of victory and a winning athlete, but no Olympic rings. The only exception to the use of this permanent design in the period between 1928 and 1976 was for the Equestrian Games in 1956 in Stockholm (Sweden) where a distinctive medal that included the rings was created. Since the 1976 Games in Montreal (Canada) the rings have regularly featured on the winners’ medals of the Summer Games, used alone or with the Organising Committee’s emblem. In the case of the Olympic Winter Games, the rings have appeared on the medals designed for each edition of the Games since 1928 in St Moritz (Switzerland).
– Items and souvenirs
You can find the rings on many items and souvenirs made for the Games dating back to the 1924 Olympic Winter Games in Chamonix (France).
- Stamps
The world of philately soon got to know the rings. They have appeared on stamps since the 1928 Games in Amsterdam (The Netherlands).
– Official posters
The poster for the Olympic Winter Games in St Moritz in 1928 was the first to feature the Olympic flag. For the Summer Games, it was not until the 1932 Games in Los Angeles (USA) that the Olympic rings appeared on an official poster.

Citius, Altius, Fortius

A mottos a phrase meant to formally describe the general motivation or intention of a social group or organization. A motto may be in any language, but Latin is the most used. A motto is a phrase which sums up a life philosophy or a code of conduct to follow. The Olympic motto is the hendiatris Citius, Altius, Fortius, which is Latin for "Faster, Higher, Stronger".These three words encourage the athlete to give his or her best during competition. To better understand the motto, we can compare it with the Olympic creed :

The most important thing in life is not the triumph, but the fight ; the essential thing is not to have won, but to have fought well.
The three Latin words became the Olympic motto in 1894, the date of the IOC’s creation. Pierre de Coubertin proposed the motto, having borrowed it from his friend Henri Didon, a Dominican priest who taught sport close to Paris. The inspiration for the creed would come later, following a sermon given by the Bishop ofPennsylvania, Ethelbert Talbot, during the Games of London in 1908.
The motto for Beijing Olympics 2008 is "One World One Dream"

5 Rings representing 5 Continents

The meaning and the values of Olympism are conveyed by symbols.Among these are the rings, the motto and the flame. These symbols transmit a message in a simple and direct manner. They give the Games and the Olympic Movement an identity.

Pierre de Coubertin intended the Olympic Games to be an international event from the time of their reestablishment in 1896 in Athens (Greece), it was only at the 1912 Games in Stockholm (Sweden) that, for the first time, the participants came from all five continents. The five rings represent the five continents. They are interlaced to show the universality of Olympism and the meeting of the athletes of the world during the Olympic Games. On the Olympic flag, the rings appear on a white background. Combined in this way,the six colors of the flag (blue, yellow, black, green, red and white) represent all nations. It is a misconception, therefore, to believe that each of the colors corresponds to a certain continent. The Olympic flag has a white background, with five interlaced rings in the center: blue, yellow, black, green and red .

This design is symbolic; it represents the five continents of the world, united by Olympic, while the six colors are those that appear on all the national flags of the world at the present time.

Arthritis-----An ageless disease

What is Arthritis?

The term “arthritis” covers more than 100 diseases and conditions affecting joints, the surrounding tissues, and other connective tissues. Arthritis and other rheumatic conditions include steoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, gout, bursitis, rheumatic fever, Lyme arthritis, carpal tunnel disease and other disorders.Defining arthritis in adults has evolved over time. Currently, arthritis is defined as physician diagnosed arthritis.

Causes of arthritis
1. Genetics
Exactly how much heredity or genetics contributes to the cause of arthritis is not well understood. However, there are likely genetic variations that can contribute to the cause of arthritis.
2. Age
Cartilage becomes more brittle with age and has less of a capacity to repair itself. As people grow older they are more likely to develop arthritis.
3. Weight
Because joint damage is partly dependent on the load the joint has to support, excess body weight can lead to arthritis. This is especially true of the hips and knees that can be worn quickly in heavier patients.
4. Previous Injury
Joint damage can cause irregularities in the normal smooth joint surface. Previous major injuries can be part of the cause of arthritis.
5. Occupational Hazards
Workers in some specific occupations seem to have a higher risk of developing arthritis than other jobs. These are primarily high demand jobs such as assembly line workers and heavy construction.
6. Some High-Level Sports
It is difficult to determine how much sports participation contributes to development of arthritis. Certainly, sports participation can lead to joint injury and subsequent arthritis. However, the benefits of activity likely outweigh any risk of arthritis.
7. Illness or Infection
People who experience a joint infection (septic joint), multiple episodes of gout, or other medical conditions, can develop arthritis of the joint.
Myth related to exercise and arthritis
You may think that exercise and arthritis do not go hand in hand. If so, you would be mistaken. It was thought for many years that if you had arthritis you should not exercise because it would damage your joints. Now, however, research has shown that exercise is an essential tool in managing your arthritis.

Antarctica --- the place to go to, to understand the earth's present , past and future

650 million years ago the present day Antarctica was surrounded by a giant amalgamated southern super continent called Gondwana. Thus Antarctica belong to ancient geological era when human beings had not yet evolved, the climate was warm in the continent and supported a huge variety of flora and fauna. the dinosaurs had been wiped out and mammals were beginning to evolved. At this juncture, the Gondwana got separated into countries and shaped the globe as we see it today.
Today Antarctica, the mysterious white continent on the south pole holds the key to the past, present and future of the planet. It is in a way responsible for the formation of Cordilleran folds and pre-Cambrian granite shields as well as the appearance of South America, India and Himalayas on the face of the earth.
No human makers- bill boards and buildings are to be seen here, yet this continent is live and kicking with a variety of living species like the penguins, seals, midges and mites existing there and countless marine species thriving in the salt water under its sheet of ice.
Since the planet is unravaged by human population and civilization, it remains relatively pristine. Its ice-cores hold more than half-million-year-old carbon records which are so crucial for the study of the past, present and the future of our planet. Thus, it is a perfect place to study how little changes in the environment can have big repurcussions.

Meaning of Communal Harmony

India is one of the oldest civilizations in the world with a kaleidoscopic diversity and rich cultural heritage. It has achieved multifaceted socio-economic progress during the last 60 years of independence.
But then this is not the true picture. We have created an unhealthy atmosphere by mixing caste and creed and the partition and revolts we've had.
What difference does it make?
writing articles, conducting debates, talk shows and tea summits might gave us city people something new to talk about but it would make no difference whatsoever to any Kahmiri living in the remote corner of Kashmir breathing in an air filled with terror, surrounded by gun shots and overtaken by the fear of getting killed at any moment or would it quench the thirst of those 100s of terrorists who are waiting like hungry vultures to destroy innocent lives.
Does all these media and political hype in any context do us "people" any good; the answer is a big NO
We know that it is not easy to achieve all the brotherhood needed overnight but don't you think we could all start afresh?
After all drop by drop the ocean is filled. Why do we sit in front of the television sets like drug addicts, because we want to be involved, because we want to 'know' and because we want to help but clearly we all know that our contribution towards the betterment of the society is zilch.
I know that there is probably no point of me writing all this but I will be happy if anyone is inspired by this and thinks he or she could attain that brotherhood, love, and that peace in his own little circle of life which can make all the difference to him and to his fellow beings. Then in my view that will be person to whom the words "Communal Harmony" would hold true meaning.

Dharma prevails with Karma

In a human mind many questions arises about "What is good ? What is Bad ? What is justice and injustice ? What leads to fruitful results and what all leads to miseries extra extra. But such questions arises only when we observe a thing from a limited framework. According to the law of Karma "As you sow, so shall you reap", however it is possible that sometimes on the path of good some small or major problems creep up.

According to the Jain philosophy the whole world is governed by the law of cause and effect. They believe that if their is injustice, there are people who are bringing justice as well.
Karma and Dharma always go hand in hand, in the sense that there is a perception and then there is an action.Karma is beyond all logic and reasoning. it causes people to be together or separate, to be weak or strong, rich or poor that is all the bondage's in life is due to karma only. Even according to the Hinduism mythology, the epic MAHABHARATA focuses on the Karma and Dharma in the form of GEETA.
Karma, for these reasons, naturally implies reincarnation or rebirth (though the opposite is not true) since thoughts and deeds in past lives will affect one's current situation. Thus, every individual alike is responsible for the tragedies and good 'fortunes' which are experienced. The concept of an inscrutable "God" figure is not necessary with the idea of karma. It is vital to note that karma is not an instrument of a god, or a single God, but is rather the physical and spiritual 'physics' of being. As gravity governs the motions of heavenly bodies and objects on the surface of the earth, karma governs the motions and happenings of life, both inanimate and animate, unconscious and conscious, in the cosmic realm.
The awareness of dharma helps in comprehending the strange ways of karma. When you see a bad karma or someone suffering you need to help him, that is your dharma. See god as a movie director having no feeling for the villian and no special favour for hero. Each one is playing his role.

Insomnia a sleeping disorder

Insomnia effects several millions of people but the good news is that with a proper diagnostics and discipline, insomnia is always treatable.

In Harmony With Nature

Did you know that Asiatic elephant, the tiger, the cheetah, the Arabian onyx and the magnificent Andean Condor are among the worlds most endangered species ?
What are endangered species? These are animals or plants that will soon die out. Recently the rate of their dying out has increased dramatically. It is estimated that 2700 species become extinct each year, about 3 an hour!.
since 1996 it has been calculated that 124 species of amphibians, 1108 types of bird 1096 species of mammals, 253 types of reptiles and 734 types of fishes became endangered. These statistics also applied to plants.

What make them endangered?
There are many reasons that can cause a species of animals or plants to become endangered or even extinct. To accommodate the increasing human population more and more land is taken away from these animals or plants. With a little amount of land these animals or plants have, food sources become scarce. Sometimes animals or plants cant adapt to the limited space they now have and die. These also become endangered because of chemicals people used. hunting and trading are other reasons.lastly pollution is the factor that threatens the lives of many innocent living creatures.

Measures:-
Try not to waste natural resources and recycle garbage which can help many trees from being cut down. Don't buy any product that comes at the cost of animal life. If you can, contribute to organization that help to protect wildlife. Last and the most important, is to learn about these creatures
